Abstract

Andrew Nelson is a writer who was the cofounder and creative director of Cyberflix, a studio that created interactive movies for computers. CyberFlix titles were developed using a proprietary authoring toolset called DreamFactory, which was meant to allow non-programmer writers and artists to design mulitmedia games.

As the lead writer at Cyberflix from 1993–1997, Nelson wrote the scripts for games including Dust: A Tale of the Wired West and Titanic: Adventure Out of Time.

Arrangement

In general, this collection is organized by the original order and organizing structure it was received in.

Andrew Nelson's papers included two unorganized folders of early Cyberflix promotional materials and press clippings, with a significant amount of duplicated material. For the sake of the researcher experience, these materials have been cataloged together as a sub-collection titled "CyberFlix ephemera, clippings, and multimedia industry research." Items were digitally re-ordered by date and material type, and digital copies of duplicate materials were discarded. The physical materials have not been reordered, and each item within the folders has been cataloged with the folder of origin in the "Extent" field.

Custodial History

This collection was donated to the Video Game History Foundation by Andrew Nelson in July 2023.

Physical Description

Some papers contained in folders had been folded or curled from years of storage. Some pages were stuck together by printer ink but were easily separated. Other papers had coffee stains. Glossy marketing folders show signs of wear.

The individual folders in this collection were stored in a plastic bag that shifted during transit; however, no materials appear to have fallen out of their respective folders.
