Abstract

Craig Stitt is a former video game artist and designer who worked at the Sega Technical Institute (from 1990–1995) and Insomniac Games (1995–2005). During his career in games, Stitt produced art and design concepts for titles including Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Ratchet & Clank, and Spyro the Dragon, which he originally designed under the working title Lifespan. Craig's work also includes a variety of character, environment, and game concepts for unrealized projects such as Astropede (aka Segapede), Spinny & Spike, and Girl with a Stick.

Arrangement

Craig Stitt organized his work into a set of seven binders, based on the period and company they were produced for (three for Sega, two for Insomniac, and two for personal art). This digital collection is organized as closely as possible to Stitt's original order. In some cases, materials were lightly re-order to group similar materials together (eg., if materials from different projects were intermingled, or if a page was placed in the wrong binder).

Although this digital collection is not organized by binder, the identifier for each item in the library catalog indicates which binder it came from. For example, an identifier that begins with "STITT-STI.1" indicates that the art came from the first of Stitt's two Sega Technical Institute binders.

Custodial History

These materials were loaned to the Video Game History Foundation by Craig Stitt. The items were returned to Stitt after digitization.

Appraisal

Craig Stitt's non-video game artwork is included in this collection as a representation of his broader career and art style.

Existence and Location of Originals

The original materials in this collection are retained by Craig Stitt.

Physical Description

All paper materials were received in excellent condition. Stitt's artwork is primarily in pencil, pen, or printouts of digital art. The artwork in this collection was originally stored in plastic storage sleeves; mots items were removed from their sleeves in order to be scanned. Several VHS tapes from Stitt showed signs of wear and degradation, which was evident during digitization.
