Scope and Contents

This collection includes promotional materials, press kits, flyers, magazine clippings, memorabilia, game demo discs and press builds, and other ephemera from the history of game developer FromSoftware, primarily from Japan, spanning thirty years of company history from the first King's Field game from 1994 through Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree from 2024. The vast majority of the material in this collection was digitized in advance by the donor and uploaded to the Internet Archive, with the exception of digitizing European DVDs and Blu-rays.

Abstract

FromSoftware is a Japanese game developer and publisher that has been releasing video games since 1994. Over the course of three decades, the company has released dozens of games, notably the King's Field series, the Dark Souls series, Demon's Souls, and Elden Ring.

Arrangement

These materials were organized in our catalog by their associated game. The physical items themselves remain packed in the original container provided by the donor, sorted by material type (posters, memorabilia, etc.). Since all materials were digitized in advance and have not needed to be taken out of their housing, with the exception of items displayed at the Video Game History Foundation Library, no attempt has been made to associate specific items with a specific container or describe their physical extent.

Custodial History

This collection was donated to the Video Game History Foundation by FromSoftware collector Kris Urquhart. Urquhart donated the collection to VGHF on the recommendation of FromSoftware (see "Donation recommendation letter from FromSoftware").

There are a limited number of items in this collection that were donated separately by other donors; they were added to this collection with Urquhart's permission. See notes on individual item records.

Existence and Location of Copies

Unless otherwise noted, the donor digitized most materials in advance and uploaded copies to the Internet Archive. Links to the Internet Archive mirrors are provided in the records for each item.

Physical Description

Unless otherwise noted by the donor, all materials were received in excellent condition and organized in sealed containers. Some of the containers were damaged when they were being unpackaged and inspected, but the contents were not damaged and remain in excellent condition.
