Scope and Contents
This collection includes digitized copies of paperwork, audio and video cassettes, disks, and game data from Michael Shorrock's work for Sega Channel from 1993–1997. Shorrock's papers primarily deal with programming research and user studies for Sega Channel, as well as samples of promotional and sales materials.

Historical Note
In 1997, Sega Channel began refreshing their service's content every two weeks. Internally, new system data was labeled alphabetically, which each letter representing a two-week block. "1997 V" corresponds to twenty-second programming block of the year, dated October 24 – November 6, 1997.

Abstract
Game data transmitted over Sega Channel was sent to distributors on CD-Rs like this one. The data was compressed into a proprietary format for delivery.
Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
The game data files on this disc were compressed as .GI files, a proprietary compression scheme based on LZSS that was used by General Instrument for delivering Sega Channel data. The files were decompressed using an open-source implementation of the .GI standard.
These game data files on this disc were originally contained in a password-protected .zip archive, which used the password "pss_gi".
