Abstract

Tom Payne is a game artist who worked at the Sega Technical Institute from 1991–1993, and LucasArts from 1993–1997.

This collection of Payne's artwork and notes comes primarily from his work at the Sega Technical Institute and particularly from his work on Sega's 1992 game Sonic the Hedgehog 2. This collection includes much of Payne's original art for his Sonic 2 zones, Metropolis Zone and Cyber City (also labeled Genocide City).

Materials in this collection are arranged based on how the papers were originally organized by Tom Payne. eg., papers originally kept together with a binder clip have been cataloged as a single unit. With the exception of personal items that were not digitized, original order was maintained whenever possible.

A small number of personal documents from Tom Payne's collection, unrelated to his career, were not digitized or accessioned.

Tom Payne has retained ownership of the original materials in this collection but has allowed the Video Game History Foundation to reproduce digital copies.
