Abstract
Over its 22-year run, the video game magazine GamePro received a large amount of publicity materials from video game publishers, including screenshots, artwork, and press releases. This collection includes all known press assets received by GamePro from roughly 1995–2004, as originally organized by GamePro designer Katrin Auch.
The CDs in this collection were either sent to GamePro by various game publishers, or they are backup CDs created by the GamePro staff from files delivered via other methods (eg., via FTP over the internet). Starting in the early 00s, game publishers had almost entirely switched to distributing press materials over the internet, and most CDs in this collection after that point where compiled by GamePro.
Arrangement
The discs in this collection are cataloged based on the date that the disc was burned; when that information is unavailable or does not appropriately reflect its contents, the discs are cataloged based on the dates of the files. Exact dates are used when they were specified by the publisher (such as a date written on the front of the CD) and do not contradict any other date metadata.
Note on File Formats
Some files in this collection have been reformatted to make them viewable for reference purposes on our digital library platform, particularly assets that use now-obsolete digital publishing formats. If needed, the original files can be accessed by downloading the disc images (see "Conditions Governing Access").
Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
Generally, minor non-viewable files such as fonts and system support files were not uploaded to the library's browsable CD directories.
Custodial History
These materials were donated to the Video Game History Foundation by founding board member Chris Melissinos.
Existence and Location of Originals
GamePro staff organized and stored their press asset collection in a set of five CD binders, along with one Banker's box containing CD cases. The original discs are still stored in these containers.
