E3 Show Daily

 Series
Identifier: MAG-E3DAILY

Scope and Contents

This is a partial collection of E3 show dailies from 1995–2016, mostly from 1999–2006, 2010–2012, and 2015–2016.

It is unclear how long the E3 Show Daily was printed; print issues of E3 Show Daily are known to exist through at least 2016. There was likely no show daily for E3 2007, since the event was significantly scaled down that year.

Abstract

Throughout the history of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the Entertainment Software Association (previously the Interactive Digital Software Association) has licensed various publishers to produce the E3 Show Daily, a daily newspaper covering new and announcements at E3. The content in the magazine was almost entirely promotional but included show-specific information, such as floor plans, exhibitor profiles, and discussions of trends in the game industry. The show dailies also included unique advertisements for game companies and their booths.

E3 Show Daily was originally publisher by IDG Communications, the co-producer of the first E3 event and publisher of the event's namesake magazine Electronic Entertainment. Over the years, the ESA would regularly change the magazine's publisher. Known publishers include:

  • IDG Communications (1995–?)
  • CyberActive Publishing (1997–?, via VideoGame Advisor)
  • Imagine Media (1999–2001, via Games Business)
  • Ziff Davis Media (2002–2005)
  • Future US (2006–no later than 2008)
  • IDG Communications and GamePro Media (2009–?)
