Neopets The Official Magazine

 Series
Identifier: MAG-NEOPETS

Scope and Contents

The library's collection includes every issue of Neopets The Official Magazine. Unless otherwise noted, each physical copy comes includes a free poster; these posters were not digitized for our digital library. The library's collection does not include any of the free Neopets trading cards or booster packs advertised on the magazines' covers, which may have been pack-in items.

The library's physical collection also includes four issues of Beckett Plushie Pals from after the Neopets magazine was canceled; due to the magazine's limited gaming content, the library is not collecting additional issues of Plushie Pals.

Neopets The Official Magazine has occasional gaps in page numbers, which accurately reflects the original content and formatting of the magazine. Notably, poster inserts are counted as eight pages, resulting in an eight-page gap in most issues. Other discrepancies are noted in individual records.

Note on Issue Numbering

The issues in this collection are cataloged by issue number. Although each issue also has volume numbering (eg., Volume 2, Number 4), a large number of errors in this numbering system make it unreliable for reference purposes (for example, three separate issues are labeled Volume 4, Number 5). Historical Note

In June 2005, Neopets was acquired by Viacom under the MTV Network brand. This is not mentioned in the magazine's copyright information. However, this may have affected the publication schedule of the magazine. Only five issues of Neopets The Official Magazine seem to have been published in 2005, indicating that the magazine's production may have been interrupted.

Abstract

Neopets The Official Magazine (sometimes referred to as Neopets Magazine) was the official licensed magazine for the web game franchise Neopets, published from 2003–2008 by collectibles publication company Beckett Media. In addition to covering Neopets lore and game strategy—including tips on designing HTML webpages—the magazine also heavily featured guides to collecting Neopets trading cards and plushies, which was Beckett Media's speciality. The magazine was published bimonthly.

According to the donor of the bulk of the library's collection of Neopets The Official Magazine, when it was discontinued around January 2008, subscribers were instead given a subscription to Beckett Plushie Pals, a Beckett Media magazine about stuffed animal collecting that also included coverage for kid-friendly web games like Neopets and Club Penguin.

Arrangement

Due to their limited gaming content, issues of Beckett Plushie Pals have been shelved separately from the main library magazine collection.

Appraisal

Due to the magazine's limited gaming content, the library is not collecting additional issues of Beckett Plushie Pals.
