This collection currently includes assorted issues of Compute! and Compute!'s Gazette. The library's run of Gazette is more complete, with all or many issues from 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1990.

Due to a change in ownership, no issues of any Compute! magazine were published between July – September 1990.

Abstract

Compute! was an American computing magazine that ran for 15 years. In addition to the flagship magazine, which covered a wide range of subjects, Compute! Publications also produced four spinoff magazines: Compute!'s Amiga Resource; Compute!'s Gazette covering Commodore 64 8-bit computers; Compute!'s PC Magazine for IBM computers and compatibles; and Compute II for single-board computers.

Compute! Publications was purchased in late 1983 by ABC Publishing Companies, who then sold them to publisher General Media in 1990. Following their sale to General Media, the spinoff magazines were discontinued. However, due to its popularity, Gazette continued as a special insert inside Compute! for the rest of the magazine's run.

Note on Magazine Title

Although this record generally refers to this magazine as Compute!, the exclamation mark was dropped from the title when the magazine was purchased by General Media in 1990.
