Scope and Contents

This is an incomplete collection of the full run of PC Games in its various forms.

During its first incarnation as PCGames, the magazine's publishing schedule was inconsistent, alternating between monthly, bimonthly, or sometimes seasonal publishing. Because issues were unnumbered, it is unknown how many issues of PCGames were published and which issues may be missing from the collection.

Historical Note

The second iteration of this magazine, Electronic Entertainment, ran from January 1994 – December 1995. This is the namesake for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Publisher IDG Communications co-produced the first year of E3 with the Interactive Digital Software Association in 1995, naming it after the magazine. In fact, IDG abbreviated the magazine's title as E2.

Abstract

PC Games was a computer games magazine from IDG Communications, the publishers of GamePro. The magazine was rebranded multiple times through its run. Originally known as PCGames, it was relaunched in 1994 as Electronic Entertainment, a magazine with a broader focus on multimedia and CD-ROMs. As the market for multimedia CD-ROMs cooled, the magazine was renamed again to PC Entertainment in 1996, before finally reverting to PC Games shortly after.

Seeking to consolidate its print magazines, IDG Communications sold PC Games to Imagine Media in March 1999. Imagine immediately shut down the magazine and absorbed its subscription base into PC Gamer and PC Accelerator.
