Scope and Contents

The library's collection of Electronic Gaming Monthly covers both print runs of EGM, 1989–2009 and 2010–2015. In addition, the library's physical collection includes the complete run Electronic Game Player (a short-run magazine that preceded EGM); several issues of Top Score (a newsletter which also preceded EGM); and nearly all special issues of EGM, such as the magazine's annual buyer's guides.

Abstract

Electronic Gaming Monthly (abbreviated EGM) was one of the longest-running American video game magazines. In addition to its extensive previews and reviews of video games, the magazine was often a source for insider news and rumors, which stood out among gaming magazines when it first debuted.

In addition to Electronic Gaming Monthly, this collection includes two precursor magazines published by Electronic Gaming Monthly co-founder Steve Harris. Prior to founding EGM, Harris started Top Score, an arcade magazine, and Electronic Game Player, a magazine similar in content to EGM. See individual magazine collection recordsfor more details.
